Take a deep breath, slowly exhale, then take a moment to really think about these questions:
- Do you struggle with depression, anxiety, dysfunctional relationships, motivation, or self-esteem?
- Do you sometimes get the feeling that everyone is a little (or a lot) better at just…being a person than you are?
- Do you consistently find yourself thinking “What the hell is wrong with me?”
- Are you tired? Like, just unbelievably, soul-crushingly tired all the time?
I want to be clear: I’m not here to solve all of those issues. I’m still working on acknowledging and processing them in my own life. But that’s what I can give you: proof that you aren’t alone. Proof that you aren’t the worst human alive, proof that even if everything is awful, you have a twin heart out there on the internet who gets it.
My name is Megan, and I’ve been struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, self-loathing, and even suicidal ideation for years now. And slowly, I started opening up about my experiences simply because they needed somewhere to go. When I couldn’t bear the weight of everything anymore, I posted it online.
To my surprise, I found a lot of people who were going through the same things.
Writing about my depression hasn’t cured it, but simply realizing that I’m not alone has made a huge difference in my life. So now I want to bring that feeling to others. I want you to feel seen and heard. I want you to know that even though you and your pain are both unique, you are not somehow completely different from the rest of the human race. You’re a person, and that automatically makes you worthy of love and support. Yes, even you, the person reading this and secretly thinking that this applies to everyone but you. Take a deep breath again and slowly exhale. You matter too.
And that’s what I’m here for.
Healing Unscripted isn’t an advice blog. I’m not going to tell you that your anxiety will be cured by CBD oil or meditation or a better mindset. I’m not going to tell you what to do, because I’m still figuring out what to do myself. Instead, I’m going to give you the gentle validation that all humans need. I’ll share my experiences and talk with you about yours, and in the process we all might heal a little.
The truth is, there is no script for healing. I’ve learned that the hard way over and over and over. I want to save you some time and disappointment by helping you find your own convoluted, frustrating, messy, enlightening, beautiful path toward building a life that’s more than just survivable.
A life that’s beautiful. Still hard, sure, and still messy, but also wonderful in a way only you could make something wonderful.
So let’s get started.
